Forthcoming – DLC
After the summer holidays I’m going to start working as lead artist for the brand new Dunfermline Learning Campus, initially a research and design project towards making an outdoor commission. The Campus will consist of Woodmill High School, St Columbas’s RC High School and Fife College (coming in 2025). It will also have wider use as a community resource. It’s an inclusive project which aims to encourage participation in workshops, design charrettes and other activities that will lead to ideas for the permanent artwork. It will evolve through listening to and engaging with everybody’s ideas, then studying the collective research, developing these ideas into design drawings, models and test pieces. I won’t be doing this in isolation, but will be sharing the evolution of the work. I also hope to pass on some of my making skills in a variety of materials and involve other makers, architects and local companies who are sensitive to the natural environment, climate change and sustainability. I’m really looking forward to working collaboratively on this ambitious project, which will continue to grow beyond my involvement. Fife Council are replacing the two schools and are working in partnership with Fife College and The Scottish Government to create Dunfermline Learning Campus. Fife Contemporary are managing the project on behalf of the stakeholders.
