RSA 200th Annual Exhibition
This significant year for the RSA also marks the tricentenary of the birth of James Hutton (1726–1797), the ‘father of modern geology’. Annie Cattrell’s curation In Time explores the RSA’s rich and layered development over time.
These are some notes in one of my sketchbooks from Hutton’s Theory of the Earth which I viewed at the National Library of Scotland.
Seeing Conglomerate at Auchmithie in Angus was the starting point for my three works in this year’s exhibition. Below they are packed in wooden boxes ready to be transported, the final image is of Sediment Study, Yellow Ochre, it’s made of sand, white cement, earth pigments, galvanised mesh and wax. These works started as patterns made from wood and Jesmonite.
