In 2024 I was commissioned by ALDI UK to make a sculpture for the site of a new store in Kirkintilloch to fulfil a condition of their planning consent from East Dunbartonshire Council. The store opened in late 2025.
Some of the stakeholders really liked the Polar bear I made for Dundee and wondered if I could make something that would appeal to children. One suggestion was that I looked at research that had been undertaken as part of the Trails + Tales project. I recalled images of Campsie Ware (ceramics) and a particularly striking rabbit with long ears, I thought about making a version of this, but designed my rabbit to be much more like a netsuke – with less scope for bits to break off, and a more balanced shape to turn and manoeuvre.
The rabbit was a much stronger idea than those I developed about Woodilee Hospital and the Monklands and Kirkintilloch railway, which had been much more local to the site. The Campsie Fells serve as a backdrop to the work.
