Belonging shows a section of an Admiralty chart of the Tay. On land it takes in St Andrews. Top right of the print is a shell, this was realised through hard ground etching on top of the photo etching of the chart. In addition the shell and its shadow employ aquatint to create the tone which makes it look three dimensional.
To the bottom left of the image there is a lens which is over Balmungo the former home of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, the shell was one of her collection.
Belonging was commissioned for Ages of Wonder at the Royal Scottish Academy. It is in an edition of twenty split equally between the RSA and myself.
